Dear Friend,

I must first thank you for helping my new book The Secretsof the Bulletproof Spirit reach the highest marks on Amazon's Hot Seller's List. It's been a great, albeit strenuous week. Besides the publishing of this Random House book(available below at an introductory sales price), I was also featured on CBS' Early Morning Show. See Link HERE if you missed it.

As well, my new and improved website goes live today. ClickHERE to view. But most importantly, we continue on with the work of forgiveness and peace started so abruptly with the loss of my son Tariq, whom we celebrate today, March 6, 2009 as it is his 35th birthday. Peace to us all.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

From Tariq Himself - In His Journal 1994

Today I took responsibility of my life. I can no longer blame others for my mistakes. I am responsible for my actions. No one is perfect - I don't want to be perfect. I know that I don't know. That's all I need to know.

Happy Birthday to You Tariq - In Honor of a Son
We Work for Love, Forgiveness and Peace

Today we honor and celebrate Tariq Khamisa's 35th birthday. On March 6, 2009 he would have been 35 had he not been taken in a senseless gang-related murder. Today, he would most likely be married to Jennifer and have kids of his own. Tariq loved children. We celebrate - in spite of his tragic death at age 20 - because it inspired a movement to bring themessage of nonviolence, forgiveness and peace through the work of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (www.tkf.org). Named in his honor, TKF has reached over 8 million children worldwide. As well, millions of adults have beenreached through my tireless international schedule of writing, speaking, media and workshops.

As I reflect on the last 14 years when my life totally changed, I look at the person I have become. When Tariq was alive, I was focused on a life of investment banking and the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Now my life is focused on keeping kids away form gangs, guns and violence. My main ministry has taken the form of writing, public speaking and teaching adults and youth how they can achieve peace through the practice of forgiveness. This work has lead to my third book which was launched last week The Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit; How toBounce Back from Life's Hardest Hits. I wrote this book with the intention of helping people to heal and move forward powerfully for the remainder of their lives.

This work has helped me meet some of the most enlightened people in the world, like the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh and countless others who are working towards creating a planet at peace. The wisdom I have gained from my 14-year journey and through these interactions is packed into my new book.

Dalai Lama

Please visit www.BulletProofSpirit.com where you will meet my coauthor Jillian Quinn. We have provided many free resources to help you overcome and thrive from any kind of hit you have suffered. The difference between bulletproof people and those yet to discover a bulletproof spirit is information and inspiration. This book provides both. Within it, readers will discover 30 proven strategies explained clearly with a gentle-hand-on-your-shoulder approach. You will find in this book the answers to many of life's challenges. Over the last 14 years the comment I have heard the most is "Azim, you have inspired me to become a better human being."

I can also say this about myself. I am a much better human being now than I was when my son was alive. Better in the sense that I am not totally focused on my life only but care more about the world and the life of all of our children. By shifting focus, I have a much more meaningful and purposeful life. What can be more important than saving the life of a child? The Qur'an tells us that whosoever kills one innocent human being, "it shall be as if he has killed all humankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he has saved the life of all humankind." This work has allowed me to touch the lives of many of our children and youth, in order to empower them to lead a life of nonviolence, forgiveness and peacemaking.

Tariq, too, was an avid writer, and in his "philosophy of life" essay, written as a high school senior in 1992, he talks about living his life within the parameters of these six aphorisms:
  1. Hang in there when the odds are against you.
  2. Treat people the way you would want to be treated.
  3. Give life your best effort.
  4. Use your time wisely.
  5. It is all right to be disappointed but a winner can never allow himself to be discouraged.
  6. Living by giving.
We can all be better human beings. And think about it ... if we all become better human beings, we automatically make our planet a better place for our children, paving the road for those who follow us.

I believe this is why we are here: to serve humanity, with the children being at the top of the totem pole of humanity! It is my hope that through this latest book, all will be inspired to use these proven strategies and become better human beings. In so doing, we will join together to make this a better planet ... a peaceful, loving and compassionate planet ... a planet that works for everyone!

Many Blessings,

GO NOT TO THE TEMPLE - A POEM BY TAGORE

A Lovely Piece with True Heart

Go not to the temple to put flowers upon the feet of God...

First fill your own house with the Fragrance of love...

Go not to the temple to light candles before the altar of God...

First remove the darkness of sin from your heart...

Go not to the temple to bow down your head in prayer...

First learn to bow in humility before your fellowmen...

Go not to the temple to pray on bended knees...

First bend down to lift someone who is down-trodden...

Go not to the temple to ask for forgiveness for your sins...

First forgive from your heart those who have sinned against you...
