Embracing the Gifts of Peace and Love by Giving them Away to All

Is it not true what they say?  When people read or hear something, they retain 15-20 percent. When they do something, they retain 40-50 percent. But when they teach something, they retain up to 90 percent.

Yes, it's when we are in a position to give away the gifts, that we truly can receive them. The gifts come in many forms. For me the gifts have come in the form of forgiveness, peace and prosperity. I wish to share all of these with you, so you can truly embrace them ... by giving them away.

forgive

Along these lines, for me a dream came true the weekend of July 16-18 when I was able to present my very first "Train the Trainer" workshop. Over three days, a total of 10 students participated and received certificates on the Forgiveness Principles I would like to share with everyone. The vision has always been to train trainers, so that people all over the world can create peace and prosperity in their lives through the practice of forgiveness.

This forgiveness is accomplished in two ways. First forgiving yourself for harm we may have caused - sometimes to those we have loved the most - and second by forgiving others who have harmed us. Over the past 15 years, having had the forgiveness message delivered to millions of children, youth and adults, with tens of thousands of grade school children and hundreds of prison inmates (see article on my trip to Leavenworth below), I've realized that many of us stay in resentment for harm done to us, or in guilt for harm we may have done to others. Both of these states are highly debilitating and paralyze us so we are not able to play out fully in the world - in states mental, emotional and spiritual. As a result of the work in the field of forgiveness, I've had several of you wanting to learn my work and take it out to the public at large.

As you teach the principles to others it will continue to impact your life in positive ways. ________________________

Because of our successful "Train the Trainer" workshop, I'm excited to share that we have the first 10 graduates certified to take the workshop to people who could be hurting. If you are a doctor, nurse, non-profit member, therapist, counselor, minister, this work will be seminal.Every church could benefit in providing a step-by-step process for the congregation to learn forgiveness. And one great result - as you teach the principles to others it will continue to impact your life in positive ways.

Whether or not we meet and spend some time in a course, know the principles are here and ready for the taking. Take them and use them. Free yourself and free others along your path. Freedom is yours through the practice of forgiveness. On that path, the destination can indeed be reached - peace and spiritual prosperity. Joyfully, I shall meet you there.

Many Blessings,

A TRIP TO LEAVENWORTH STATE PENITENTIARY

Looking Into the Eyes and Souls of Innocence

Every year for the past four years, I have spoken to inmates at the largest and oldest federal prison in the United States at Leavenworth, Kansas. Chaplain Dr. Kendall Hughes, a compassionate and brilliant leader, along with other ministers teach a course called Life Connections, which helps the recidivism rate drop under 10 percent, compared to California's recidivism rate of 80 percent. It is an 18-month course that targets those inmates who are going to be released on parole in the next three years. This year on July 30, I did a 3-hour talk to about 125 inmates ranging from ages 20 to 60 with prison terms that range from a few years to over 20 years.

I just returned from there Friday, and I feel blessed to play a small part in their difficult journey. The first part of my talk impressed upon them the devastating impact victims face when they experience criminal offenses. The majority of the time after the talk is spent offering the inmates love and hope. I let them know that life is not over for them. There is a way to get their life back on track.

Here is the formula:
(1) Take responsibility for your actions
(2) Ask forgiveness of the people you have harmed
(3) Forgive yourself
(4) Redeem yourself by forever committing to live a life of nonviolence and helping others not make the same mistakes they made.

I always see many tears and get a lot of hugs and handshakes, and it is inspiring for me to see that so many of them want to redeem themselves. One year I was able to connect an inmate with the family of a person he had murdered. These inmates who are able to turn their lives around can be a huge resource for society.

They can have a positive impact on many youth that fall into a life of violence. This year I shared with them that the spirit is mighty and can help them deal with life's challenges as it has helped me. I stated that there are ways to connect with one's spirit and the importance of being resilient (as outlined in my book The Secrets of a Bulletproof Spirit). I told them that I connect with my spirit via meditation and if they were interested I would teach them how to mediate. I was blown away when 25 or so expressed interest in this and even stayed an extra hour to take part in a guided meditation.(Free download HERE)

The experience in Leavenworth is always extremely moving and I do shed tears on the flights back home. It is work like this that keeps my soul nourished and lets me know I that am on my spiritual path and purpose.
