Description

From Forgiveness to Fulfillment – a sequel to Azim’s first book, From Murder to Forgiveness – beautifully illustrates how Azim has found fulfillment through forgiveness, detailing the evolution of a father dedicated to healing not only his heart, but also the wounds of our society

In January 1995, Azim Khamisa’s 20-year-old son, Tariq, was shot and killed by a 14-year-old gang member in a pizza delivery gone awry. At the time, a devastated father had to relearn how to live, saying, “I had to find a way to climb out of my grief just as I had climbed out of my son’s grave.” Nine months after the tragedy, Azim started the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF) in his son’s memory with the purpose of stopping kids from killing kids. For the past twelve years, he and the murderer’s grandfather, Ples Felix, have been standing side by side as brothers in the work of teaching children and adults alike the ways of nonviolence and forgiveness.

Beginning with the Violence Impact Forum (VIF) and expanding over the years into several distinct programs, the foundation has positively impacted hundreds of thousands of students with its key message of peace. Azim’s message of forgiveness is also internationally shared through lectures at conferences and other venues and through his public workshop, where his audiences come to the self-empowering realization that they always have choice.

“When I lost my son, my heart blew up into a million bits, and I did not know if I would ever recover,” he says. “But I have found fulfillment again, and that it comes from the ongoing act of forgiveness.”

From Forgiveness to Fulfillment – a sequel to his first book, Azim’s Bardo: From Murder to Forgiveness – beautifully illustrates how Azim has found fulfillment through forgiveness, detailing the evolution of a father dedicated to healing not only his heart but also the wounds of our society.
